A Young Orchestra

This amusing photo of a group of young musicians -- violinists, percussionists, a whistler with a birdwhistle, and young woman with a strange instrument consisting of a bellows and a whistle system, all posed in what looks like the stage setting for a play.

The person on the far left is Gerhard Paul Utermohlen, August's youngest son (note his short trousers; he eventually grew to be 6'5"!). The other violinist is another Utermohlen brother (?which one). Some of the girls look like Utermohlens as well, particularly the middle seated girl, who looks like Marie. This picture was probably taken around 1890, and unfortunately badly exposed and difficult to reproduce.
