The Organ at the Groote Kerk

At right is a picture of the great organ at the Groote Kerk in Hoorn. The case was built by Witte in 1889, thus under the aegis of August Utermohlen. This case was a model for cases in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and in the Nieuwe Zuiderkerk in Rotterdam, which were built by van Gendt. This image and infaormation were obtained from the webpages of Het Orgel, the Internet Magazine on European Organ Art.

The church is now a shopping center (!), and the case was destroyed, but the organ itself has been saved and is now in St. Plechelmusbasiliek in Oldezaal.
