H. F. A. Utermohlen's birth

On the right is a register extract from 1836 certifying that Heinrich Freidrich August Utermohlen was born in Nienburg [Duchy of Olderburg, in what is now Germany] on the 11th of June 1829, and baptized on the 21st of the same month, the son of Johann Heinrich Utermohlen and Sophia Carolina, nee Priesedt. His grandfather, Johann Justus Utermohlen, was among the witnesses for his baptism.

Johann Justus Utermohlen, August's grandfather, was married twice. After his first wife died, he married Maria Margarethe Losekring, and together they had a son, Johann Heinrich Utermohlen, who was born on the 14th of July 1803 in Oldenburg. At this time we have no further information on August's family, although my father told me that one of the Utermohlens of this time had been a trumpeter in a British Army regiment from Hannover during the Napoleonic Wars .

Note that, like most of his relatives, and most people in Northern Europe at that time, Heinrich Friedrich August had several first names, but for everyday purposes he was called simply 'August'.
