Cornell's Peruvian Weaver - Textile Designs

Textile designs in coastal Peru varied from the complete absence of design, to simple geometric patterns, to complex interlocking animal images. The images on this page are all of textiles in the Anthropology Collections at Cornel University.

The image to the left shows a complex tapestry. The pattern is partially woven and partially sewn together (the two halves are separated in this image). Note the interlocking birds.

The image above shows a bright pink plainweave textile, probably attributable to the Chancay culture. The origin of the textile below, with its simple geometric pattern and natural colors, is less characteristic of a single region.
